Find out about my 2017 commissions, Sunset & Sunrise
When new Harrogate clients contacted Lou through loutheartist.com, having discovered her prints for sale on eBay, Lou had no idea exactly what would materialise from their initial brief:
“We are interested in commissioning two works. We would like each to be 100cm square and the colours shown in your ‘Angela’ and ‘Charlotte’ limited edition prints.”
With initial communications quickly developing into two circular concentric works to be called ‘Sunset’ and ‘Sunrise’, Lou realised these works were a metaphor for recent events in her personal life. With significant changes meaning the sun was truly setting on her previous life and rising up above a bright, new horizon, Lou felt a deep connection whilst working on these pieces.
This was the first time Lou had graduated from one colour, through several others, to a completely different colour. The colour ways were carefully considered to emulate the beautiful natural colours which can be often be seen surrounding the sun and bouncing across the skies at either end of the day. The blending had to work so the light golden centre appeared as if it were bursting out of ‘Sunrise’ and conversely the darker golden centre of ‘Sunset’ had to work as if it were disappearing into the night.
These were the initial Colour Cards experimenting with the blends...

Lou worked with her clients and their photographs to ensure the perfect framing options were chosen, then oversaw the framing process before personally delivering and installing the works on the clients own hanging system...
The clients loved their commissions so much they even decided to frame their Colour Cards...
