Find out about my 2017 commission, Nyekimber...
Continuing with foil collage, yet looking to use different discarded foil sources, Lou has recently started a new series called 'BREATHE'. Inspired by the dark blue, contemporary art adorned walls in Etch. (by Steven Edwards) restaurant, in Hove, Lou has commenced three new artworks made exclusively using Nyetimber English Sparkling Wine bottle foils. The first of which, 'Nyekimber', was commissioned by Etch. Owner, Steve Barrey.
After being introduced to Steve and Steven, during an amazing tasting menu lunch, Lou described to Steve how a bespoke loutheartist piece would bring a glowing golden circle of life to the restaurants last blank wall space - the initial idea for 'Nyekimber' was out...
Steve, very keen to tie the artwork to restaurant life, decided Lou should use only Nyetimber bottle foils, a Sussex based English Sparkling Winemaker, permanently on the list at Etch. Also, keen to complement his wife, Steve decided to blend the English wine producers name, Nyetimber, with his wife’s name, Kim, making the perfect name, 'Nyekimber'
Here’s how ‘Nyekimber’ came together…
Lou worked with her client, Steve, and the guys at Art Graphics UK ltd to develop a bespoke, backlit, circular frame to perfectly encapsulate 'Nyekimber' and complement the contemporary restaurant setting. To read the full story about the framing of Nyekimber, click here
Working on more than one piece at a time, Lou has also finished the second piece in the series, which is named 'Tryetimber'. This second piece uses the same three colours, yet in concentric blocks, three distinct rings of gold, silver and rose gold.
The third piece to solely use Nyetimber foils, 'Goldtimber', will be all gold. Lou is looking forward to the challenge of using one material in one colour and collaging the textures to make an interesting, yet simple, but gorgeously gold, circular artwork.
